ESSAY ON INDEPENDENCE DAY
August 15, 1947, was the most important and memorable day in Indian history, when India acquired Independence after a long struggle. After more than 200 years, India won its freedom from the British rule. This day is celebrated with great joy every year as 'Independence Day.'
For almost two centuries, the Britishers ruled over us. Our great freedom fighters like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Bhagat Singh, Subash Chandra Bose and many more worked tirelessly and devoted their entire lives for the freedom of our country.
After getting freedom, Jawaharlal Nehru unfurled the Indian national flag at the Red Fort and India became the largest democracy in the world.
Independence day is one of the national festival and celebrated by every Indian. On this day, Independence day ceremony is organized at the Red Fort where our Prime Minister unfurls the national flag. Then he addresses an annual speech to the entire nation. Different cultural events take place at the Red Fort following the March past of the Indian army. Many honours are distributed on this day.
Schools, colleges and other educational institutions celebrate this day with great joy. The flags are also hoisted there. Speeches and cultural events are organized. Sweets are distributed among the students.
Independence day is a great symbol of unity and diversity of India. The young and the old all celebrate this day and everyone remembers the sacrifices of our great leaders. This day makes us feel proud and fills our heart with patriotism.
