ESSAY ON INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

 

 

International Day of Yoga is celebrated every year on June 21. The idea of International Yoga Day was first proposed by Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi on September 27, 2015 during his speech at the UN General Assembly. The proposal was supported by 170 countries across the world. Realizing its universal appeal, United Nations proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga. The date of June 21 was chosen as it is the day of summer solstice, the largest day of the year and has special significance in many parts of the world.

 

The first International Day of Yoga was observed around the world on June 21, 2015. In India, it was celebrated in Rajpath with PM Modi along with dignitaries of 84 nations, participating in near about 21 yoga poses. This event bagged India two Guinness world record one for being the world's largest yoga class featuring around 36,000 people and other for participation of people belonging to 84 nationalities. It was a successful initiative and received popularity across the world. Since 2015, yoga day is been celebrated worldwide.

 

The Yoga Day aims to raise awareness worldwide of many health benefits of practising yoga. Yoga is considered to be an ancient practice which was originated in our country. This practice is considered to be almost 5,000 years old.

 

Yoga has been beneficial in keeping the body and mind in sound health. Yoga asanas make the body strong, flexible and our health improves. The practice of pranayama regulates the purification of internal system and organs. Regular practice of yoga can help loose weight, relieve stress and improve our immunity. It helps in curing many diseases. It rejuvenates our body, keeps us calm and makes our lives better and healthier.

 

International Yoga Day is a worldwide event celebrated through activities such as yoga camps, meditation, debates, discussions and variety of cultural performances. The aim of this day is to bring everyone together and educate them about the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of yoga. It is a matter of proud for our country that we are able to share our rich heritage of yoga through this day.
