Good morning everyone,
It is a great honor to speak before you on the occasion of National Unity Day, celebrated every year on 31st October to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India. He was a true symbol of courage, wisdom, and leadership who played a historic role in uniting our great nation.
After India gained independence in 1947, the country was divided into more than 560 princely states. Many rulers wished to remain separate. But Sardar Patel, through his strong determination, intelligence, and farsightedness, succeeded in bringing all these states together to form a united and powerful India. His efforts laid the foundation of the nation we proudly live in today.
National Unity Day was officially introduced in 2014 by the Government of India to honor his extraordinary contribution. This Day reminds us that India’s real strength lies not in power or wealth, but in unity and harmony. We may speak different languages, follow different religions, and celebrate different festivals, yet the spirit of India binds us as one.
Sardar Patel’s famous words still inspire us — “Manpower without unity is not a strength unless it is harmonized and united properly.” His message teaches us that when we stand together, no force in the world can weaken us.
As the youth of this great nation, it is our responsibility to protect this unity. Let us rise above differences, spread love and understanding, and work together for a brighter, stronger, and united India.

Good morning everyone,
It gives me immense pride to stand before you today to speak on National Unity Day, celebrated every year on 31st October. This special day marks the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, who dedicated his life to the cause of a united and strong nation.
After India achieved independence in 1947, the country faced one of the greatest challenges in history. There were more than 560 princely states, each with its own ruler and interests. The dream of one India seemed almost impossible. But Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, with his deep patriotism, sharp diplomacy, and firm determination, brought all these states together to form the Union of India. His courage and leadership gave shape to the India we proudly live in today.
To celebrate Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s immense efforts in building a united India, the Government of India introduced National Unity Day in the year 2014. It serves as a reminder that unity is the soul of our nation. Our strength does not come from our numbers or resources but from the bond of togetherness that connects every Indian.
India is known for its rich diversity — different languages, cultures, traditions, and religions. Yet, beneath this diversity runs a single spirit — the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat” (One India, Great India). True unity means respecting every community, celebrating every culture, and standing together as one nation, especially in times of challenge.
Sardar Patel once said, “Take to the path of dharma — the path of truth and justice, for that is the only correct way to unite India.” These powerful words remind us that unity is not just about geography; it is about hearts and values.
As students, we are the future of India. It is our duty to preserve the unity and integrity of our nation. We must rise above differences, promote peace and understanding, and work for the progress of our country. When we stay united, no force in the world can divide or defeat us.
Let us salute Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his vision and take a pledge to keep our beloved India united forever.
