2 Minute Speech on Rani Lakshmibai in English | Short Speech
Respected Principal, teachers, and my dear friends,
Good morning to all. “Khoob ladi mardani, woh toh Jhansi wali Rani thi” — these lines by poet Subhadra Kumari Chauhan perfectly describe the bravery of Rani Lakshmibai, the Queen of Jhansi.
She was born on 19 November 1828 in Varanasi. Her childhood name was Manikarnika, or Manu. From a young age, she was fearless and skilled in horse riding, sword fighting, and archery. In 1842, she married Raja Gangadhar Rao of Jhansi.
After the king’s death, the British tried to take over Jhansi under the Doctrine of Lapse. But Rani Lakshmibai boldly declared, “Main apni Jhansi nahi doongi” — “I will not give up my Jhansi.”
During the Revolt of 1857, she became a symbol of courage. Wearing a soldier’s dress, carrying two swords, and tying her young son Damodar Rao on her back, she fought the British fiercely. She showed her leadership in battles at Jhansi and Gwalior.
On 18 June 1858, she attained martyrdom while fighting bravely. Even her enemies admired her courage.
Even today, when we think of bravery, the first name that comes to mind is Rani Lakshmibai. Rani Lakshmibai’s story inspires us to love our country, face challenges without fear, and stand for what is right. She will always be remembered as the “Lioness of Jhansi” who fought for India’s freedom.
Thank you.
Jai Hind!
