His life took a new direction after meeting Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, who taught him that serving humanity is the highest form of worship. He was not afraid to question customs and traditions that lacked reason, as he believed that blind faith weakens the human mind.
The turning point in his life came when he met Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa. Under his guidance, Vivekananda realized that spirituality is not an escape from life, but a way to serve humanity. After his guru’s death, he traveled extensively across India. What he witnessed shocked him deeply—poverty, hunger, illiteracy, and social injustice. These realities shaped his vision for a stronger and self-reliant India.
Swami Vivekananda believed that India’s biggest problem was not lack of resources, but loss of confidence. To restore national pride, he went to the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893.
